Installing

Joustine for Windows runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Get it from the Microsoft Store, which installs and updates it for you.

Windows Firewall

The first time you host, Windows may ask whether to let Joustine communicate on your network. Allow it on Private networks so the phones and laptops on your WiFi can reach the game. Joustine only listens on your local network; it never reaches out to the internet.

Playing on the PC

Your PC is the host and shows the game on its screen. Two people can share the keyboard — one on WASD, one on the arrow keys. Each Xbox or other game controller you plug in or pair joins as its own additional player (press A or B to flap; hold Y to leave a match).

Network Play

Everyone must be on the same WiFi network (LAN) as the host PC.

Guests do not need to install anything: they scan the QR code on the host screen and play from a tap-interface in their phone's web browser.

A guest joining from another computer gets a keyboard controller instead of a tap-pad, and that keyboard is shared by two players — one on WASD, one on the arrow keys — so a single extra laptop brings two more jousters to the game.

When another Joustine host is already on the same WiFi (an Apple TV, a Fire TV, a Google TV, another PC), a phone or tablet opening Joustine automatically becomes a controller for that game instead of starting its own.

Joustine on Windows does not stream game video to clients; everyone watches the shared host screen.

The best experience is players gathered around the host screen, using their own devices only for input, rather than everyone watching their own handheld.

Joustine may work with any device's web browser on your LAN.
